PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic is a fully computer-based English test that's grown rapidly in acceptance over the past decade, largely due to its fast turnaround and consistent, AI-assisted scoring.

Test Format

PTE Academic is roughly two hours long and combines Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening into an integrated format — many question types test more than one skill at once.

How Scoring Works

PTE Academic is scored on a scale of 10 to 90. Scoring is done primarily by automated systems, which is why results are typically available within 48 hours — much faster than IELTS or TOEFL.

Why PTE Has Grown in Popularity

  • Speed: The fastest results turnaround of the three major English tests.
  • Consistency: AI scoring removes some variability that comes with different human examiners.
  • No live speaking interview, which some candidates find less stressful.
  • Growing acceptance by universities in Australia, the UK, and the US, and by Australian and New Zealand immigration.

What Score Do You Need?

50-58 is common for foundation and pathway programs, 58-65 for undergraduate admission, and 65-79 for postgraduate and more competitive programs.
