The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), administered by the China Scholarship Council, is one of the most generous fully funded scholarship programs available, covering the full cost of studying in China for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students.
What CSC Covers
- Full tuition waiver
- Free on-campus accommodation, or a housing allowance
- A monthly living stipend
- Comprehensive medical insurance

- Age limits that vary by program level
- A confirmed or pending admission arrangement with a Chinese host university
Two Ways to Apply
- Chinese Embassy/Consulate Channel: Apply through the Chinese embassy in your home country, which nominates candidates to CSC.
- University Channel: Apply directly through a Chinese university authorized to nominate CSC candidates — often has a higher success rate.
Required Documents
- Completed CSC application form
- Academic transcripts and diplomas
- A study or research plan
- Two recommendation letters — see our recommendation letter guide
- Language proficiency proof — see our HSK levels explained guide
Application Timeline
CSC deadlines are typically several months before the academic year starts (often around March for a September start), but university-channel deadlines can be earlier — confirm the specific deadline well in advance.
