TCF Canada is a specific version of the Test de Connaissance du Français, designed and recognized specifically for Canadian immigration purposes, including Quebec's selection programs and Express Entry's French-language points.
How TCF Canada Differs from Standard TCF
While standard TCF is a general single test placing you across A1-C2, TCF Canada uses the same core format but reports results specifically mapped to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels, the scale Canadian immigration programs actually use.
Test Sections
TCF Canada tests all four skills: Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing — the "Canada" version requires you to demonstrate production ability directly.
Why CLB Level Matters
Express Entry awards additional points for French ability, with higher CLB levels earning progressively more points — always confirm current point allocations directly with IRCC before planning around a specific score.
Validity Period
Like standard TCF, TCF Canada results are valid for two years from the test date — a genuinely important constraint if your immigration timeline extends beyond that window.
How to Prepare
Since TCF Canada requires production in both Speaking and Writing, practice should include active speaking and writing tasks, not just vocabulary and grammar recognition.
