Abstract: This paper examines the relationship between urban green space density and reported anxiety levels across twelve metropolitan areas. Using a mixed-methods approach combining satellite imagery analysis with survey data (N=3,200), we find a statistically significant inverse correlation (r = -0.34, p < 0.01) between green space proximity and anxiety scores, even after controlling for income and population density. We discuss implications for urban planning policy, while acknowledging that correlational data cannot establish causality, and that residual confounding by unmeasured variables remains a plausible alternative explanation.
Prior work has largely treated linguistic code-switching as a deficit β evidence of incomplete mastery of either language. This paper challenges that framing, arguing instead that fluent code-switching demonstrates a distinct and cognitively demanding competence: the ability to navigate two grammatical systems simultaneously while preserving coherence. Drawing on a corpus of 500 recorded conversations, we identify systematic, rule-governed patterns in switch points that are inconsistent with random or deficient language use, and instead point toward a sophisticated, underappreciated bilingual skill.
